Das lange Warten hat bald ein Ende. In 2 Tagen ist Anpfiff für die ersten 4 Mannschaften der WM 2010 in Südafrika. Der Gastgeber darf sich gleich als erste Mannschaft gegen Mexiko behaupten. Aufgeteilt in 8 Gruppen spielen 32 Nationen um den Titel des Fußballweltmeisters. In insgesamt 10 Stadien finden einen Monat lang die Spiele der besten Mannschaften der Welt statt.
Die FIFA ist ein Zusammentreffen vieler Nationen. 8 Nationen der WM Teilnehmer zählen Englisch als ihre Amtsprache. Nicht nur weil Englisch in Südafrika gesprochen wird, sondern auch um Kommunikationsprobleme auf dem Spielfeld zu vermeiden, ist es wichtig, dass die Spieler Englisch sprechen können. Aber auch Daheimgebliebene Fans sollten noch einmal ihre Englisch Kenntnisse aufbessern, denn wir wollen ja unsere volle Aufmerksamkeit den Spielen widmen. Damit die Sprache des World Cups sitzt, gibt es hier die wichtigsten Fußballvokabeln und Ausdrücke im Überblick:
goalkeeper = Torwart
In general play, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to use their hands or arms to propel the ball.
offside position = Abseits
A player is in an offside position if he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than the ball.
own goal = das Eigentor
An own goal cannot be scored directly from an attacking throw-in or a defending free kick.
striker = Stürmer
Lukas Podolski is one of the best strikers from the national team.
scorer = Torschütze
Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski are the best scorers ever. In combination they have scored 32 strikes in 31 matches.
bicycle kick = Fallrückzieher
A bicycle kick is a move in football, which is made by throwing the body up into the air, making a shearing movement with the legs to get one leg high overhead to reach the ball, which gets kicked backward over the player’s head.
A team of eleven players:
- goalkeeper (also called goalie) who tries to block the shots by the opposing team
- the fullbacks (defense) who try to prevent the opposing team from scoring goals
- the halfbacks (or midfielders) who play both offense and defense
- the forwards (or strikers) who try to score goals for their team
Duration:
The game is played in two halves of 45 minutes each. At halftime the teams change ends.
